The Colorama Of La Collection Privée Christian Dior Dresses The Window Displays Of Galeries Lafayette

“I believe a collection may very well be expressed in black or white, but why deprive fashion (…) of the prestige and charm of color, which provide it with a certain appeal?” – Christian Dior

Grey, blue, amber, red, pink and green… color is vital to the DNA of the House of Dior.

Among the different olfactory universes, La Collection Privée is the one that regularly gives a nod to Monsieur Dior’s passion for color. It is then natural for the House of Dior, in partnership with Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, to pay tribute to this legacy by dressing the windows of the great Parisian department store with a spectacular setting: recreating the universes of seven of the iconic La Collection Privée fragrances, in the window displays that look out onto boulevard Haussmann, each one in tune with the tone it expresses. Because at the heart of this collection, each fragrance prides itself on transcribing a color, as well as a story and an emotion. The culminating point of the installation lies in an immersive discovery of the iconic Gris Dior fragrance, through a stand at the rue Mogador entrance podium

An unprecedented must-see event, for an immersion in the art of color according to Dior, open from January 16th to February 19th, 2023.

MONSIEUR DIOR AND COLOR

“My childhood home was roughcast in a very soft pink, mixed with grey graveling, and these two shades have remained my favourite colors in couture.” – Christian Dior.

From his earliest years, Monsieur Dior was sensitive to the power of the colors that surrounded him. From his childhood in the family home, Villa des Rhumbs, he remembered the soft pink facades, the luxuriant garden, the grey gravel and its cliff-top location overlooking the Channel Islands. This panel of colors would stay with him his entire life, and from which he would continually draw inspiration for his collections. He adored color, and enjoyed slipping in an unexpected and poetic little touch of it here and there, where least expected, creating a pleasant surprise each time.

By simply walking through the doors of the Galerie Dior at 30 avenue Montaigne one can observe how important color is for the House of Dior: the colorama in the majestic staircase, where a spectacular display window rises across several floors, unfurling the color palette used by the House from its creation onwards, across every universe, in a veritable rainbow of fashion accessories, beauty and miniature clothing.

Although La Collection Privée Christian Dior is synonymous with elegance and sophistication, it also combines energy with avant-gardism by audaciously appropriating this Dior colorama to illustrate the most beautiful scented stories.

OUD ISPAHAN – THE OCHRE OF AN ORIENTAL PALACE AND THE INTENSE RED OF THE DAMASCENA ROSE

Monsieur Dior had the habit of sewing a sprig of lily of the valley into the linings of his creations in order to bring good luck when the collections were shown. This poetic tradition has seen lily of the valley become the House of Dior’s lucky flower, and its tender green hue, the color of luck. In its window, Lucky encapsulates the sweetness of lily of the valley sprigs nestled in a bouquet of white flowers still wet with the morning dew, for a subtly nuanced tableau.
